A look at Negative Sixxx

By Mike Vanek

When I set out to write this blog I wanted to expose the world to the best bands I could find. Well, one of those bands is Oakland California's NEGATIVE SIXXX!! The SF bay area has always been a breeding ground for awesome heavy metal bands and Negative Sixxx is no exception. With a super heavy sound that blends modern metal with thrash, this band is an all out attack on the senses! Made up of scene veterans Sid Frankosky on Vocals (StriktNyne, Desecrater, Jesus Crisis w/Harald O ex-DRI) Chris Van De Van on Guitar (Enemy In Peril, Silence Chair) Rick Chavez on Guitar (A Morbid Curiosity, Enemy in Peril, Rawn Wadley on Bass (Stormbat) and Mark Miller on Drums (Anisoptera) this band will wake up the neighbors and keep your head banging all week with ferocious riffs, a solid rhythm section, and absolutely killer vocals.

When it comes to debuts Negative Sixxx came out swinging with possibly the best debut a metal band could ask for playing at The Oakland Metro Operahouse during the return weekend for Bay Area Thrash Legends VIO-LENCE!! and since then the band has been featured on Robb Flynn's podcast "No Fuckin Regrets", Zetro's Toxic Vault, and Talking Shop W/ The Boss and the box podcast and has raged all over norcal becoming one of the Area's top live bands. The Band is currently supporting its current and debut release entitled "The Truth Will Set You Free" Independently released in 2019 and produced by Zack Ohren at Shark Bite Studios in Oakland California. The Record can be found on Spotify, Itunes, and anywhere you download music. The Band has been being played on radio stations worldwide, even earning Band of the Month on Castle Blakk Radio and Most Requested Band on Texas's ZTR.FM!! With Songs like "Chain Reaction", "Minus Six Feet" and more this EP is an absolute banger and I suggest you jump at the chance to listen to it today!!

I recently had the chance to talk to my friend Sid Frankosky the band's singer and asked him the following: "How did Negative Sixx come together and how has the overall experience been with the band so far??" Sid Answered: "It pretty much all started when Rick Chris and I would meet up for a couple beers at our local pub and we would talk about how we should start a band together Chris and Rick we're not in a band at the time and I felt it was a good opportunity for us three to get together and see what we can come up with then we found our drummer Brian at a Halloween party Jamming songs with Robb Flynn from Machine Head. So we now had a good unit. So then we recorded a four-song EP with Zack Ohren at Shark bite studios after finding our bass player Rawn from Storm bat. fast forward a little bit We have a full-length album ready to be released with songs that people haven't heard yes except for the few lyric videos we put out and 1 video with the song Afterlife in honor of Rick's and I Moms. Brian ended up parting ways with the band and was replaced with Mark Miller's ex-drummer from Anisoptera. so now we are moving forward writing new material and getting stronger and stronger." I also asked "The band’s first show was with Vio-Lence... How mind-blowing was it for you to debut in your hometown opening for one of the Bay Area’s biggest bands ever at one of their returning weekend shows??" Sid Answered "So the story goes after recording a four-song ep the bass player Dean Dale from violence caught wind of it and liked it a lot I got a call from Phill Demmel out of the blue asking if we wanted to open the show. I was beyond stoked I answered yes with no hesitation we have yet to play a live show in the Bay Area we decided we didn't want to bombard ourselves with local shows quite yet and focus more on marketing our band for opportunities just like this. so our first live show was opening for violence, sold-out show at the Oak Metro and it was beyond amazing what an honor it was for us to debut our band for the first time on a show of this caliber we had a merch Booth ready for people to buy stuff and did very well with that and we gained a shit ton of fans after the show before we knew it we were on zetro toxic vault and then on Robb Flynn no fuckin regrets podcast and many other radio stations nationwide. Including being the number 1 band requested on a Texas radio station. So people are saying we came in with a bang and I'm happy to hear that because that's exactly how we wanted to do it. We are still unsigned and shopping for the right label. Lol, it's kinda funny when in the past I have contacted a few labels and they would message me back saying they thought we were already on a big label. Haha no we are not, but we are definitely ready to get to the next level and show the Metal scene worldwide what we can bring to the table. We are definitely excited to see what the future holds for us. We have gotten awesome support from friends and fans and that just drives us to go the distance." I'd like to thank my friend Sid for his time and for always keeping me updated on the band's progress!!

In closing, this is a super killer band from my homeland of the SF Bay Area more specifically the metal breeding grounds of Oakland California and I highly recommend you check out Negative Sixxx today!!
