Today’s quest to bring you good music takes us to Oakland California and the Bay Area Doom/Sludge Metal mastery of Monster God...


From someone watching from afar over the last few years I’ve been gone from my home state, One of the names I hear the most coming outta the Bay Area is the Doom/Sludge band Monster God... This band straight-up homage to great bands like Corrosion Of Conformity, DOWN, ACID BATH & More!! These guys lay down sledgehammer riffs and concrete songs that melt your brain... MG is the ultimate is the genre and I would put them up with any band that lays down the heavy sludge...



Formed in 2017 By Mike Smarlo (Ex-Inhalent) Mike Kaufmann  (Ex-Defiance, Under), and Karl Casolori (ex-inhalant) they started playing shows and quickly gaining a following and landing shows with great bands like Crowbar, Insite, and Skinlab!! In 2019 Monster God signed with AIW records and released the self-titled “Monster God” EP which is a total banger of super heavy riffs, matched with a slamming rhythm section and soulfully demonic vocals that call for a stiff whiskey drink and the fattest of bong loads that leave you coughing for a week... Monster God will return to the studio in March of 2021 to record a full album for AIW...







When I found these guys on Spotify last year I quickly added them to my stoner doom sludge playlist with the high on fires, Kyuss’s, and Deep cut Black Sabbath among others... Monster God is a thunderclap of groove and riff that hit the bay like a tidal wave after the big one!! This band has nothing but potential and I couldn’t recommend them enough!! Whenever I ask my friends back home ( Hi Boss & Box) which band they recommend me to cover and they all yell really loud Monster, God!!!


I recently spoke to Mike Kaufman of Monster god and here is what he had to say... I asked Mike: “How would you describe Monster God’s Sound and what are the band's main influences??" Mike said: "Monster God sound is a mix of slow heavy guitar riffs, thundering bass, and hard-hitting drums. Vocals are heavily influenced by Dax Riggs and Sammy Duet of Acid Bath with a little Glen Danzig. Our main influences are Neurosis, Kyuss, Black Sabbath, Acid Bath, Dopelord, and High on Fire." I then asked: "Who are some bands in the Bay Area scene you think people should know about??" Mike replied: "Bitter Lake is one of our favorite new bay area bands" Many thanks to Mike Kaufman of Monster god for his time!!

In the world of death metal and slam it’s hard not to like the mighty Internal Bleeding... Now before I write this a word of thanks... I just went through one of the worst times of my life right smack in the middle of doing the research for this blog and I took a week off... Watching I.B’s Smoke Sesh videos and listening to the band's latest album on Spotify really helped me get through some of the darkest days of my life and I thank them for that...  When I started getting into the extreme metal scene at The Workshop in Ceres California, Internal Bleeding is a band I heard a lot about and I would check em out on YouTube from time to time, and of course, they would be on my Spotify radar when that came to be and of course, I listened to everything I could researching this
